We share reading tips, training in a variety of skills and leisure activities of any kind. LaFilanda is a place of freedom, open to everybody, with only one rule: respect others and care for the infrastructure; in doing so everyone feels at ease.

CREATION
On June 6, 2018, five personalities from the region of Mendrisio decided to found, the LaFilanda Association (Statutes of the Association).
FOUNDING MEMBERS AND PURPOSE
With the launch of the LaFilanda Association, the founding members – Carlo Croci, Gianna Macconi, Maria Galliani, Mauro Arrigoni and Vincenzo D’Apuzzo – aimed at actively supporting the new LaFilanda center, especially thanks to fundraising. The collected funds are used to enhance the activity program at LaFilanda.

The Association invites companies, institutions, private individuals and foundations to support the activity of LaFilanda with a financial contribution of any amount (Donation Brochure and Payment slip/QR code).

AT THE HEART OF LAFILANDA ARE THE PEOPLE.
LaFilanda lives thanks to many motivated men and women who make their time and skills available as volunteers. They are the “Filanderi” who welcome the public, take care of many tasks, help and offer entertainment.
JUST SO YOU KNOW
The name “Filanderi” today used to designate our volunteers recalls the origin of the building.
LaFilanda was a spinning mill where many women and young girls worked in often difficult conditions. These workers where called “filandèra”. By maintaining the name, LaFilanda wants to pays a tribute to the memory of these women.
Creattivati is a non-profit cultural association that helps artists from Italian-speaking Switzerland to show their work in various locations. Thanks to a long lasting cooperation with Creattivati, LaFilanda helps promoting upcoming local artists and benefits from four temporary art exhibitions a year.

The yellow and green rooms are available for conferences, business meetings, courses and various activities. The basic equipment includes an audio-visual system, 2 tables and 40 chairs. Additional furnishings and fittings on request. Thanks to a movable partition wall, both rooms can be united to one single space for about 80 guests.
BLUE ROOM
Seating for +/- 30 guests.
The room is an amphitheater, soundproof and equipped with an audio-visual system. Particularly suited for storytelling and film projections. Ideal for children and teenagers!

INSIDE LAFILANDA
At LaFilanda people can spend time in company or alone, meet, chat, read, listen, play, learn. The entire space is very flexible and can be used in many ways. The three floors – furnished with shelves, chairs, armchairs, computers and tables – provide a large number of informal angles where one can meet, work or simply make oneself comfortable just as at home. Children have a specially equipped space where they can read and play. The U20 space attracts teenagers who want to spend time together between comics, audiovisuals, books and video games. For those in search of silence, LaFilanda offers a soundproof reading room.
A MEMBERSHIP TO ACCESS THE WORLD
Being a member of the Ticino Library System grants free access to countless services! Books, magazines, DVDs, DIY, power tools for DIY enthusiasts and toys can be taken home and a large catalog provides free online access to thousands of e-books, newspapers, magazines, audiobooks, etc. in numerous languages. The card is available at a cost of CHF 20.- (free for students) and has unlimited validity. Request it now!
